Xmas Sea Stories

December at the seaside. What is it like?

I am often asked how we celebrate Christmas and welcome the New Year. I often get lost with the answer. We don’t do anything special to spend the one or two nights of the year properly. We just live each day and try to make everyday life special.

Ten years ago, I first dreamed to spend Xmas nearby sea while looking at a picture of winter Cadaqués (a small seaside town in northern Spain) in one of the in-flight magazines. Back then I wanted to know what it feels like to spend Christmas at the coast. Now I know the answer.

Only in my second year here the feeling seems to unfold in full force. There is no need to hurry. The holiday is not on December 31 or 25… it is our life. I feel calm and light. I feel the birth of something new on the 22 when the day starts becoming a bit longer, minute by minute.

Through these shots, I want you to feel these holiday spirit, to catch this mood of childish carelessness, simple joys, and not being in a hurry.

The shots were made during December 2023 in Italy (Sperlonga, Ischia, Procida) by Irina Kudres.
